Co-opportunities
Last night, I went to CCIS’ (bi?)annual Co-opportunities Expo. It’s a time where they introduce the students to some of the lesser known co-op employers. I really don’t know why Raytheon was there though. They are probably one of the most ubiquitous co-op employers ever.
There was an interesting group of companies ranging from high technology MIT outfits to Financial companies and some web development shops. I dropped my resume off at a few of the companies. One of the companies does 3d image scanning. They are creating a device which allows dentists to just scan their patient’s teeth and they can use a stereolithograph to print the resulting impression in 3D. It’s pretty cool. Another company was a big financial company, the department that the co-op was for was in the Computer Forensics department. The job is also in New York City ( one can see ground zero out the windows ) which is pretty cool. I’d love to have the opportunity to spend six months in NYC. I dropped my resume off with a company that provides Comcast with their Video-On-Demand infrastructure. I’ve actually interviewed with them before but was snatched up by my last co-op, forthwith, before I could go on a second interview with the company.
At some point during today, I’m going to send emails to everyone who I gave my resume to. Following up is the key.

That’s pretty neat. I went to the expo last time. Some of the jobs seemed mediocre, others were very, very cool. Brontes was there. I’m actually doing my co-op there this session! What a small world we live in.
